The Most Profitable Youth Academies in the World: Top 100 Clubs Ranked by CIES Football Observatory

The CIES Football Observatory has presented the top 100 clubs with the most profitable youth academies in the world over the past ten years in its latest weekly update.

Not surprisingly, Anderlecht is the best ranked Belgian club. The calculation only takes into account players who were at the club for at least three years between the ages of 15 and 21.

With 516 million euros in income in that period, Benfica is by far the club with the most profitable youth academy. Known for its youth academy and especially for its ability to scout young talent, Benfica stands head and shoulders above the rest. Joao Félix (€127.2 million), Ruben Dias (€71.60 million) and Goncalo Ramos (€65 million) have all earned significant sums for the Portuguese club.

Behind the great Benfica we find Ajax (376 million euros) and Olympique Lyonnais (370 million euros) on the podium. Real Madrid (364 million euros) and Chelsea (347 million euros) complete the top 5.

Three Belgian clubs are in this ranking and not surprisingly, Anderlecht (179 million euros) is at the top, in a nice 25th place. Many talents have emerged from Neerpede in recent years, including Youri Tielemans (25 million euros to Monaco in 2017) and Jérémy Doku (26 million euros to Rennes in 2020).

Below this we find Club Brugge in 77th place and Standard Liège in 78th place.
