The Jean-Marc Dupraz 2 Era Begins: Limoges’ Loss to Strasbourg

The Jean-Marc Dupraz 2 era began with a familiar duel for the new CSP coach: Limoges-Strasbourg, the poster child for the Championship final in 2014 won by the Haute-Vienne club. But ten years later, the SIG came to spoil the coach’s return to the Limougeaud bench, Sunday in Beaublanc (80-73). The afternoon ended with the whistles of the Ultras Green and the chant “direction resignation” to remind us that the open divide between the leaders of the CSP and part of the public has still not been resolved.

Last Sunday, led by Romain Leroy, the Limougeauds snatched victory at the last minute against Roanne (80-77), after a flamboyant “money-time”. They experienced the opposite scenario a week later. With five minutes to play, Nicolas Lang (19 points) had tied the two teams, hitting from behind the arc, after blowing up Paul Lacombe, his friend from the 1990 generation (65-65, 35th).

A decisive 11-0 for the SIG

But the CSP then liquefied to concede an 11-0, driven by Paul Lacombe (14 points, 6 rebounds), with an interception converted into a basket then an offensive rebound followed by a caviar for Phil Booth (13 points). Meanwhile, SIG X-factor Tyrus McGee (23 points) hit a three-pointer. Nysier Brooks added to the score with a fierce dunk, symbol of his domination under the circles (12 points, 12 rebounds), this Sunday (76-65, 38th).

Hero against Roanne, Tyree Appleby chained a four-point action and two free throws to give a breath of hope, but Danilo Nikolic (16 points) missed the winning shot which could have reignited the suspense (76-71, 39th) 41 seconds from the final buzzer. Strasbourg climbs back to 11th place ahead of the CSP which will have to look in its rearview mirror, especially if it loses in Blois (15th) next Sunday.
