The “Camaretas” 2024 chess tournament was held this Saturday at the Golmayo municipal library. It had 50 participants of very different ages.

The participants have been distributed into two simultaneous competitions: the general competition, aimed at those over 14 years of age and some under that age with sufficient chess level, and the children’s competition, focused on those under 14 years of age who are just starting out in this field. sport. All of them have played six rounds using the Swiss system at a pace of 12 minutes plus 3 seconds increment per move.

In the general competition, IM Luis Ignacio Rubio Mejía was the winner, who did not give his rivals any options.

Second place was occupied by Rodrigo Altelarrea Hernando, who obtained 4.5 points.

The podium was completed by Martín Lobato Gil, who achieved 4 points.

In the children’s categories, the three best sub-14s were Jordi Camil Guizada Maldonado, who won all six games played, Juan Alfonso Gil Barragán, who achieved 5 points and Diego Morillo Liso, who reached 4.

In the under-12 category, Mateo Barca Borobio, Diego Llorente Mazo and Diego Vicente Martínez received awards, achieving 4 points each.

The under-10 category had the female predominance of Adriana Martínez García (4.5 points), followed by Mateo Gil Barragán (4) and Alonso García Bartolomé (4). Finally, in the sub-8 category, Gabriel Laspeñas Bernal, Erik Sanz Salinas and Mario Ayuso Gonzalo stood out.

The Tournament also awarded local players, who, coincidentally, were father and son: Benoît Lamour, as best local player, and Mikel Lamour Marañón, as best local U-14 player.

The “Camaretas” 2024 chess tournament was organized by the Círculo Amistad Numancia Chess Sports Club and was sponsored by the Golmayo City Council and the Soria Provincial Council, which offered 100 euros in cash and 15 trophies, which were distributed among the chess players mentioned above.

The awards were presented by the City Council’s sports monitor, Juan Carlos Aguilar.

This tournament is part of the X Children’s Chess Circuit “Alfoz de Soria”, which will hold its next competition in Los Rábanos on February 18.
