Tennis Rivals Boris Becker and Nick Kyrgios to Reunite as TV Consultants at Australian Open

Boris Becker and Nick Kyrgios have exchanged a few barbs on social media in recent weeks. However, the two players will both serve as consultants for the same television channel during the Australian Open.

Injured and withdrawn from the Australian Open, Nick Kyrgios will nevertheless be present in Melbourne during the first Grand Slam of the year 2024. Failing to participate in the tournament played from January 14 to 28, the 28-year-old Australian will officiate as a consultant for the Eurosport channel and should thus come across the legend Boris Becker on set, as the Daily Mail newspaper points out.

Quite a tasty reunion between the two men, a few weeks after an exchange of messages and barbs on social networks. In mid-December, after a criticism from Nick Kyrgios about supposedly “slower” tennis in the past, Boris Becker responded by recalling his lack of Grand Slam titles.

A “credibility” problem between Kyrgios and Becker

Absent since June 2023, Nick Kyrgios had a complicated end to the year. Between physical problems and mental discomfort, the Aussie took the floor to express his disenchantment with tennis. A position tackled by Boris Becker after his younger brother’s criticism of former players.

“Nick has been making a lot of noise about tennis lately. Why is he talking about a sport he apparently hates… Checking the facts, Nick has never won a major tournament as a player or coach (yes, a double) so where does his credibility come from”, blurted ‘Boum Boum’ on X (formerly Twitter) on December 13. “Wash vs Federer, Borg vs Nadal, Sampras vs Djokovic!?! I’m not even going to mention McEnroe, Connors, Lend, Agassi, Courier, Edberg, Wilander, Kuerten, Bruguera, Rafter, Hewitt and many others… What he talks to his OnlyFans about lots of things except tennis.”

Faced with this attack on social networks, Nick Kyrgios did not fail to respond by mentioning Boris Becker’s concerns with the law.

“Hahahaha, this guy talks about credibility… last time I checked, he was the one hiding assets, no,” the whimsical and fiery Australian had blasted on X.

Before concluding on the need to win titles to talk about tennis: “And… Does that mean that we both have less credibility than Patrick Mouratoglou?” A sentence released in response to the former German player with six titles in Grand Slam tournaments.

Kyrgios has a Grand Slam “in his legs” according to Becker

Before seeing Boris Becker and Nick Kyrgios exchange their tennis analyzes during the next Australian Open, the German finally concluded their media outings on social networks with an outstretched hand in the direction of the current 13th player in the world.

“I wish Nick a speedy and complete recovery and I look forward to seeing him again on a tennis court,” Boris Becker finally wrote as if to calm things down with the Australian. “He’s an exciting player when he’s in good shape! He has a Grand Slam in his legs but he has to express himself on the court…good luck!” The reunion between the two men in Melbourne will be particularly scrutinized.
