The young talent Holger Rune, 20, and the “elderly” Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, 32, have qualified for the semi-finals of the ATP 250 tournament in Brisbane.
In the quarterfinals, Rune defeated Australian James Duckworth (world no. 116) 6-2, 7-6 (8/6). Then Dimitrov more easily dispatched another Australian, Rinky Hijikata (n.71), 6-1, 6-4.
Rune will face the Russian Roman Safiullin in the semifinals, winner of the quarterfinal match against the Italian Matteo Arnaldi 7-6 (7/4), 6-2. Dimitrov waits to know the name of his next opponent. It could be the Spaniard Rafael Nadal, if the former world number 1, returning to the circuit after almost a year of absence, eliminates the Australian Jordan Thompson (n.55) in the last quarter.
