Teenage Tragedy: High School Basketball Player Kills Father in Istanbul

15-year-old KK, who studied at Galatasaray High School in Istanbul and played in the school’s basketball team, killed his lawyer father, Fatih Gürbüz K., who forbade him from playing basketball because he was doing badly in his classes, with a knife.

According to the news in Sabah newspaper, there was another argument between father and son the previous evening. After the argument, KK locked himself in his room in anger. Yesterday morning, on report card day, KK woke up around 06:00 to go to school with his mother. As they were going out, KK said to his mother, ‘Mom, I’m going upstairs,’ and then he went upstairs. When She went upstairs, she grabbed a knife and headed towards the bedroom. When he entered, he stabbed his father, Fatih Gürbüz K., with the knife several times. When he didn’t come down for a while, his mother went upstairs. He found his wife covered in blood in the bedroom.

“MY MOTHER ASKED FOR HELP”

His son also had a bloody knife in his hand. The mother immediately called 112 and asked for help. Police and medical teams came to the house. It was determined that father Fatih Gürbüz K. died as a result of 20 stab wounds. KK was also detained by the police who came to the house and taken to the police station. The bloody knife was also confiscated. After the examination, the father’s body was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute. In his first statement to the police, KK allegedly said, “My father forbade me from playing basketball because my studies were not good. He also took me off the team. That’s why I got very angry and the incident happened.” Police teams instituted an inquiry about the incident.
