JUDO. At the Swiss Kata Championships, the Kata team Oliver Zuckschwerdt and Thomas Gschwend from Judo-Rheineck won two silver medals. The entire Swiss kata elite was present at the title fights in Cham. Five different categories were evaluated throughout the entire day of competition: Nage no kata, Katame no kata, Kime no kata, Juno kata and Kodokan Goshin.

Start in two categories

The Wolfhäldler Oliver Zuckschwerdt and his teammate started in two categories, according to the new regulations nothing more was allowed: In the “Nage no kata”, the form of throwing, the two deservedly won the title of Vice Swiss Champion. In the “Katame no kata”, the form of control, the two members of Judo-Rheineck also became vice Swiss champions. Her national team colleagues from the Basel area won the gold medal in both categories.

Precision and structure

Katas (Japanese for form) exist in almost all Japanese martial arts. A kata is about the precision and sequences of several techniques. The structure is given and the aim is to execute the techniques as perfectly as possible. The precisely defined process also makes it possible to demonstrate dangerous techniques that would not be possible in a duel. What is important is technique, concentration and persistence in training. Judo is therefore not just a sport, but a school of life, according to the press release from the two successful athletes.
