Success and Challenges at Weekend Badminton Competitions for Soria-CS24 Club

This weekend, both the seniors, the seniors, and the youth team of the Soria-CS24 Badminton Club had scheduled competitions that were affected, in part, by inclement weather.

In Palencia, the seniors competed with their sights set on next weekend where they will debut in a new edition of the National Club League.

The results were excellent with special prominence for Javier Barrios, who, in a line of progress without pause, managed to defeat high-level absolute players to win two medals.

The first one she obtained, gold, came in the mixed doubles category with Elena Dueñas from Burgos. Despite the quality of their opponents, Javier and Elena passed all the rounds very comfortably. In the final they met Esther Pereira from Burgos and the first team won by a tight 21-19 and 23-21.

The road to the individual final led him to overcome players placed in the Top20 of the national ranking. With the confidence of these results and his game, he faced the final with hopes of beating the national number six. After winning each of the contenders in a set and after a tight 6-5 in the third game, Javier suffered a slight muscle injury that forced him to retire to prevent more important injuries that would compromise his immediate schedule.

Javier leaves the Palencia event with reinforced morale after demonstrating his level and state of form that allows him to rub shoulders with leading players at an absolute level.

In addition to these two medals, the women’s double had a double presence on the podium with Nora Martínez and Vanessa García from Palencia in second place and the young women Daniela Corchón and Ana Peñaranda as third.

These results allow us to have some optimism in the league competition that will begin its season next weekend with a stellar Javier Barrios and with the women’s section of the club in a high level of form.

The previous day on Saturday, Logroño summoned sub17s and seniors. The Soria expedition was reduced to the presence of María González, leaving the rest of the components without traveling given that the times of their matches were scheduled at a very early hour and travel was discouraged due to the state of the roads.

Despite being the only one from Soriano, María González obtained the silver medal in the under-17 individual category, starting a season brilliantly, obtaining positive results that, given her dedication, will be repeated throughout the season.
