“The achievement that makes me most proud is having reached the playoffs in every single season in the 3 years in which I led the team. A feat which, I add, has never been achieved by anyone else in the club’s 60 years of existence, regardless of the championship formula or any other consideration. There is no – in my opinion – a better thermometer of the quality of a choral effort whose results, moreover, have always continued to grow” comments Naldoni.
On the development of young talents of Godo Baseball, the manager explains: the use of young people in the field was also decided on the basis of the company’s objectives and guidelines, as well as to satisfy contingency needs. We have tried to give them the necessary space for gradual and constant development – as well as high-level physical and technical-tactical training – which, hopefully, from this year onwards will help them to earn increasingly important roles within the team. “The problem of this society does not consist of poor physical or technical preparation. The keystone for the revolution is to be found, in my opinion, in the mental and behavioral sphere: aspects that are certainly difficult to address in a sea with often blurred boundaries such as that of “semi-professionalism” in which Italian baseball swims, as well as human nature itself. We need to implement a “cultural” change, rather than an organic one, and it will not be an easy undertaking. However, I am confident that the experience, attention and analytical mind of a professional like Iday will allow him to attack these (and other) critical issues with great knowledge of the facts” continues Naldoni.
On the future and the possible collaboration with Godo Baseball as a hitting coach, Naldoni declares: “Godo’s proposal to take on a role of less responsibility in the field allowed me to focus on something else, between private life and training in the emergency healthcare sector, the path of which is long and demanding. My priority at the moment is to try to shorten the time as much as possible. I still have no certainty about whether and how my possible collaboration with Godo will materialize. The company, I am sure, would be perfectly capable of standing on its own two feet anyway, even if we were not to reach any type of agreement.”
