Rasta Vechta is a hot play-off candidate in the easyCredit BBL. And as a newcomer! On Sunday (5 p.m.) Vechta can achieve their next important victory in the northern duel against Hamburg Towers.
It is thanks to Stefan Niemeyer (63) that the small town club (34,000 inhabitants) even plays in the Bundesliga! As a student, the Rasta boss took over the management of the animal feed manufacturer Miavit GmbH in 1988 and later became the club’s main sponsor.

The man who played basketball as a student has been the club’s sole shareholder since 2010, and Rasta was promoted to the BBL for the first time in 2013. Every year he gives millions in contributions to the club. He doesn’t think about himself.
Niemeyer explains: “I am not an investor who wants the money he invested in Rasta back at a profit. Our region gives us so much. We really live on a really great level here. The standard of living is very high and we are envied from outside. I think it’s just part of giving something back.”

The people in Vechta and the surrounding area thank him. The home games are always sold out with 3,140 fans. “We have a feeling of togetherness in the hall. It’s important to the people here and to me that we meet at home games. We have convinced more and more entrepreneurs and sponsors that they also see the importance of Rasta for the region,” says Niemeyer.
