BANGKAPOS.COM — South Korea will face Bahrain at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in the opening round of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup on Monday (15/1/2024) at 18.30 WIB.
The Asian Tigers are making their eighth appearance in a row at the continental event this month and hope they can perform optimally.
They beat Iraq 1-0 in a friendly last time out, with Mainz’s Jae-Sung Lee scoring the only goal of the game to register his 10th international goal and first since 2021.
South Korea is a two-time winner of the continental competition and four times runner-up.
They were eliminated in the quarter-finals of this competition in 2019 and this time they are targeting a deeper run.
Bahrain, meanwhile, have appeared in the last five editions of the Asian Cup and will extend that record in Qatar this month.

The Asian Tigers have lost only one of their last eight matches in this fixture.
Bahrain have not kept a clean sheet in their last seven matches in this competition, which dates back to 1993.
South Korea are ranked 23rd in the latest FIFA rankings and currently sit 63 places above their cross-town rivals.
