Ski jumping: Pinkelnig defeated again only by Prevc

Julia Mühlbacher rounded off the strong team result with 14th place, Chiara Kreuzer (31st) and Katharina Ellmauer (35th) did not make it into the second round. The group of jumpers is now changing continents and traveling to Japan, where they will be jumping for World Cup points next week in Sapporo and a week later in Zao.

After her comeback due to a knee injury, Pinkelnig was ranked fourth, first, second and second and was very satisfied with that. “It’s an incredible series, I didn’t think I’d be able to start like this again. I already knew that I was good at ski jumping. But when it comes to competition, you have to get to the point,” said the overall World Cup winner last season.

Prevc is in its own league in Villach

The 18-year-old Slovenian also wins the second competition in Carinthia.

In the ORF interview she was again very satisfied with today’s performance. “It was just a long time away for me to get back into the competitive rhythm. The jumps were good,” said the 35-year-old, who took off her hat to Prevc, who is outstanding in Carinthia (“I’m just jumping very relaxed at the moment and having fun with it”). “She’s doing very well at the moment, bringing her strength to the table and doing the jump well.” She’s now looking forward to recovering, especially since there were a lot of appointments on the program recently, some of which were already too much for her, like she herself remarked. “I’m now looking forward to a few days’ break, then we’ll step on the gas again in Japan.”

Austrians strong again as a team

Eder was also happy on Thursday, achieving her best result to date after returning from a torn cruciate ligament. “It’s just a real satisfaction that I’m back at the front, it wasn’t easy. A lot of tears were shed,” said the Salzburg native. “I felt good today, I still have my problems. But I am completely satisfied with fourth place.” The situation was similar for Seifriedsberger. “I’m happy that I was able to improve. I’m not entirely happy with the jumps, but it’s a cool placement, it’s really relaxed at home.”

The ÖSV team presented itself strongly as a team, with a total of four Austrians ending up in the top ten. Behind Pinkelnig, Eder and Seifriedsberger, Marita Kramer, who came away empty-handed on Wednesday, came back in ninth place. In 14th place, Julia Mühlbacher couldn’t quite match her previous day’s performance, which had brought her fifth place. Chiara Kreuzer (81 m) in 31st place and Katharina Ellmauer (78 m) in 35th place did not make it into the second round.

ÖSV head coach Bernhard Metzler was very satisfied with his team’s home performance. “The balance is very good, especially in terms of teamwork. I’m extremely happy with it, the ladies performed really cool.” It should continue like this in the Far East. “I really like the jumps there in Japan anyway. It’s always exciting there with wind and weather and a long journey,” said Pinkelnig. Departure is on Wednesday after a few days break.
