Santiago De Sousa will reinforce Portuguesa FC

Striker Santiago de Sousa will return to the highest category of national football with Portuguesa FC, after playing in the FUTVE 2 League in 2023 with Deportivo Miranda.

The native of the country’s capital is the ninth signing announced by the team that lives in Acarigua-Araure, along with: Abraham Moreno, Junior Moreno, Jeizon Ramírez, Andrés Montero, José Meza; the Argentines Gastón Blanc and Nicolás Pantaleone; and the most recent Colombian additions Darwin Carrero and Diego Echeverri.

The attacker belonged to Metropolitanos FC, but was on loan at Estudiantes de Mérida and later with the second division Mirandi team last year. For this FUTVE 2024 League, he will return to the national first division, but with a new motto.

De Sousa played his last game in the FUTVE League with the Merida team, on March 11, 2023. However, his journey in Venezuelan football began at the age of 16, when he made his professional debut in the Venezuela Cup wearing the uniform of Metropolitanos FC ( on September 5, 2018 against Atlético Venezuela).

It would not be until 2020 that he would make his debut in the FUTVE League, a match played against Caracas FC on November 9 of that year. Since then, he has only played 6 games in the first division.

However, Sousa will look for a first great opportunity in the attack of Venezuela’s five-time champion. Not in vain, the Portuguese eleventh this year is competing in phase 2 of the Copa Libertadores, seeking to advance and ensure its presence in international competitions.
