San Diego Padres Sign Dominican Shortstop Leo De Vries for $4.2 Million

Los Parents San Diego signed Dominican shortstop Leonardo (Leo) De Vries this Monday for a bonus of $4.2 million, Major League Baseball reports on its website.

With that amount, De Vries joins Fernando Cruz as the only ones, so far, signed for four or more million dollars.

It marks the second consecutive year that the Parents They sign MLB.com’s top international prospect, after signing Venezuelan catcher Ethan Salas last January.

“It’s a very special day for me,” De Vries said through an interpreter on a conference call Monday morning. “Especially since this is my favorite team. It definitely makes it a special day for me and my family,” MLB.com publishes Jesse Borek, Jesús Cano and AJ Cassavell.

The 17-year-old player could be joining minor league training next March or beginning his first steps in the Dominican Republic.

Dominican Republic’s leading newspaper focused on general news and innovative journalism.
