Salary cap: the RCT does not appeal its fine after the transfer of Cheslin Kolbe

Sanctioned with a fine of 70,000 euros for “failure to comply with the general obligation of transparency and cooperation” on December 26, the RCT will not appeal this sanction, pronounced by the disciplinary committee of the National Rugby League concerning the transfer of Cheslin Kolbe between Toulouse and Toulon in August 2021. Stade Toulousain was also fined 50,000 euros with a suspended sentence.

This Tuesday, the Toulon club published a press release to justify this choice: “In the interest of appeasement, the RCT waives its appeal to the FFR Appeal Commission and will pay the fine. »

The RCT contests any lack of transparency

However, the club wanted to provide some clarifications, recalling in particular that the RCT had not been sanctioned for exceeding the salary cap. “The method of calculating the Salary Cap Manager was strongly contested by the RCT, both during two mediation sessions organized by the League and before the Specialized Commission,” it is written in the press release. The latter upheld the club’s arguments and dismissed those of the Salary Cap Manager and the League, essentially based on an interpretation of the rules. No excess of the salary cap can therefore be blamed on the RCT. »

Concerning the fine of 70,000 euros for “failure to comply with the obligation of transparency and cooperation” with the Salary Cap Manager, the RCT therefore accepts the sanction while refuting any fault. “The RCT has always cooperated with the latter and the LNR, and contests any lack of transparency. »
