Saint-Brieuc Hosts Côtes-d’Armor and Finistère Championships: Athletes Aim for Future Success

Côtes-d’Armor and Finistère Championships, in Saint-Brieuc

Smiling slightly on the front despite her victory in the triple jump, Oriane Le Coroller is struggling to enjoy her title of Côtes-d’Armor hopeful champion. “I am very far from my record, very far from what I know how to do,” regrets the athlete licensed at Saint-Brieuc Athletics. With a jump to 12m08, she found herself almost a meter from her best mark (12m94) which made her one of the best in France in her discipline. “But I expected it a little,” she says to reassure herself.

In these first days of January, while the indoor season is just beginning, these departmental championships are first and foremost an opportunity, for the best athletes, to “put things in place for the future,” explains the young woman from 20 years. There were several of them who came to this first meeting to first take the first steps after winter preparation. “There are those who aim to qualify for Brittany, and those who aim for France,” summarizes Jean-Yves Paulic, the coach of Oriane Le Coroller. Brittany’s hopeful champion in the 200m in 2023, Brestois Colas Mainguene even returned “from a week of skiing. So I was a little tired.” Which did not prevent him from winning quite clearly over the distance.

But if the French indoor championships are only scheduled in a month at Miramas (February 17-18), these departmental championships are also an opportunity to launch a positive dynamic. “It’s a stage that I need to give myself confidence for the future,” explains Finistère Louise Morval, titled over 1,500m ahead of Pauline Nonnotte. I need to have this stage in my season to continue well. »

“And releasing big performances now is always good for the future,” smiles Segui-Alan Jaouen (Quimper Athlétisme), French long-hopeful champion in 2021 and easy champion of Finistère, several of which took place at the Halle Maryvonne Dupureur of Saint-Brieuc.

“I have to be present”

A technical aspect, therefore, which mixes with the special atmosphere which reigns during these days of competition. “It’s very friendly,” explains Louise Morval (Stade Brestois). This is the moment when we can see everyone’s evolution and meet familiar faces. It makes me so happy to go there! » Oriane Le Coroller confirms: “When you’re younger, it’s a pure moment of laughter”.

Because from the region’s headliners to the most modest athletes, they all meet up during the departmentals. Which is not the case for the Brittany championships, where a first selection has already taken place. “The Finistère championships are important for the club. I have to be present,” confirms Colas Maiguene. Now in Toulouse, Segui-Alan Jaouen also cherishes the spirit of the event. “I don’t come to the region often anymore, so it’s important to come back at these times to represent the club and see old friends again. »
