Roberto Martinez Criticizes FIFA Best Player Award Result

tvOnenews.com – Cristiano Ronaldo’s coach in the Portugal national team, Roberto Martinez, said that many people made mistakes when voting on the FIFA Best Player Award which was won by Lionel Messi.

Earlier this month, Lionel Messi officially won Men’s Player of the Year at the FIFA Best Awards beating Manchester City striker Erling Haaland and PSG’s Kylian Mbappe.

In 2023, Lionel Messi scored nine goals at PSG and won the French League title. Then, in the middle of the year, he decided to move to Inter Miami and scored 10 goals and won the League Cup.

Meanwhile, Haaland scored 36 goals in the Premier League last season, and overall scored 52 goals for Man City in the 2022/23 season. He also donated the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup trophies.

FIFA’s Best Awards usually cover a calendar year and differ from the Ballon d’Or where the scoring covers a full season for the winner.

This year, however, the men’s FIFA Best Award is judged from December 19, 2022 to August 20, 2023, because the Qatar World Cup was included in last year’s ceremony.
