Ajax is surprised by RKC Waalwijk’s decision not to bring fans for the away match on January 21. According to Ajax, RKC has never indicated that it has had bad experiences with matches in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

RKC reported on Thursday that there is no support among supporters to travel to Amsterdam. “This is due to unpleasant experiences in previous seasons. The club has decided to respect this position and will therefore not purchase tickets for the match in question.”

Ajax reacted with surprise to RKC’s statement on Thursday evening. “At Ajax we find this very unfortunate,” says a spokesperson. “We are surprised that RKC supporters have decided to boycott the match. We also do not recognize the points put forward by RKC.”

Because RKC has never reported having had bad experiences, according to Ajax, no evaluation has taken place. “The fact is that last year action was taken in the ArenA against RKC supporters who chanted anti-Semitic chants and supporters who threw beer from the visitors’ section to adjacent sections.”

Ajax emphasizes that it is open to discussions about the reception of RKC supporters at future matches in Amsterdam.

RKC resumes the Eredivisie on Friday with a home match against Heracles Almelo. Ajax will visit Go Ahead Eagles next Sunday.
