The Hill chronicles the struggles that real-life athlete Rickey Hill faced as he tried to realize his dream of becoming a professional baseball player. Colin Ford plays Rickey Hill, while Siena Bjornerud plays Gracie in The Hill. Of course, much of the film focuses on Rickey’s aspiration to play baseball at a professional level. But his story could not be told without including those close to him, including his significant other. Although Rickey apparently never dated a woman named Gracie in real life, Bjornerud’s character was loosely based on his then-girlfriend, Sherran. The film changed her name and some aspects of the character, but The Hill couldn’t have been made without Sherran being somewhat present in the story.

Her father, Pastor James Hill, officiated the ceremony and they were surrounded by family and friends to celebrate their love. Rickey also began playing rookie ball for the Montreal Expos that year, so everything seemed to be going well for the ballplayer in the mid-1970s.

The athlete played in the Expos minor league system for four years before being forced into retirement.
