Revitalizing the Sports Center in Bollate: A Major Urban Redevelopment Project Begins

(Mi-lorenteggio.com) Bollate, 26 January 2024 – Construction sites open at the Sports Center in via Verdi where work financed with PNRR funds has begun and aimed at redeveloping a place which, for almost fifty years, has been a point of reference essential for the growth of sporting practice and culture in Bollate. A total investment of over 2.7 million euros which will serve to revive the Bollate sports facility, making it more beautiful, efficient and modern.

But let’s get into the merits of the project.

The redevelopment project of the Sports Center in via Verdi is large and complex and is developed in several phases. In this first phase the works will consist of the adaptation of the existing sports facilities and will continue with the demolition of the old and unused buildings and the subsequent construction of new buildings with low environmental impact. In particular, the long-unused five-a-side football changing rooms and the tennis and baseball locker rooms will be demolished, as they are very energy-intensive and no longer suitable for hosting today’s sporting activities.

They will be replaced with new baseball changing rooms, located in place of the former playing fields now in disuse, perfectly accessible and technologically high-performance from an energy point of view. Specifically, two changing rooms will be built for the athletes, two for the coaches and referees, an office and a first aid room. Next to the changing rooms, the new layout of the two bullpens is planned for the athletes’ batting training.

The tennis changing rooms, however, will be located on the side of the “west” entrance on Via Pucci, close to the first covered court. Thus, the padel tennis area will be clearly separated from the baseball area.

The grandstand has also been completely redone with new and modern bleachers.

The project will then continue with a second phase of redevelopment of the open spaces and with the completion of the regeneration of the sports center and the enrichment of the sports offering that can be practiced. There will be 3 outdoor padel courts, a beach volleyball court, a 3 vs 3 basketball court, a calisthenics area and a body & mind area. The project will then be completed with the creation of a real urban park with illuminated paths and relaxation areas with benches and trees and a beautiful tree-lined row in the promenade that connects the park to the changing rooms.

Furthermore, the entire project will be characterized by accessibility, according to current regulations, to ensure that everyone can fully use the Center in autonomy and safety.

“A major design work that will bring to Bollate a structure truly worthy of our athletes and the many associations that gravitate in the city – say the Mayor Francesco Vassallo and the Sports Councilor Ida de Flaviis. The final objective is to transform the Sports Center into an Urban Park with a sporting vocation in line with the most modern urban redevelopment works and with ministerial indications. We want to make Bollate ever more beautiful, lively and lively, full of activities and cultural and sporting meeting places”.
