Without Amadou Haidara (Mali) and Ilaix Moriba (Guinea, FC Getafe, among others, who are said to be interested in the African Cup), the squad with which the Saxons traveled to the Spanish Costa Calida consists of 28 players. This also includes the young players Nuha Jatta (17, midfield), Yannick Eduardo (17, striker), Tim Köhler (18, defense), Lenny Hennig (17, defense) and U-17 world champion Winners Osawe (17, midfield ).

Until Sunday, when the plane brings the players from the current fourth-place team back to Leipzig, coach Marco Rose primarily wants to fine-tune his team’s automatisms. “We plan to work on a few processes,” says Rose, “we play against Frankfurt in less than 14 days. We want to solidify a few things in our game.”

In addition, Eljif Elmas, who came from Naples, is a new player in the Leipzig squad “who wants to get used to our processes”. Above all, the 47-year-old continued, “we want to continue to incorporate the processes that work well and get routine into our game: play under pressure, play in the final third.”

With Willi, we hope to have him back in the team at the end of January.

In addition, automatisms against the ball and standard situations are on Rose’s priority list. In a test match planned for Saturday – the opponent has not yet been determined – the training content should then be made visible if possible.

Kampl and Simakan have to pass

On Wednesday, Kevin Kampl and Mohamed Simakan had to miss out due to illness, while Castello Lukeba (slight back problems), new signing Elmas (slight thigh problems) and Dani Olmo (after a shoulder joint rupture) completed parts of the team training.

Meanwhile, Willi Orban still has to be patient. The captain and defense chief, who has been out since tearing the lateral ligament in his right knee at the beginning of September, is also working individually in La Manga; it is still too early to return to team training. “With Willi, we hope to have him back in the team at the end of January,” says Rose about the 31-year-old’s return prospects.
