Rams Rookie Puka Nacua Makes History with Record-Breaking Performance

Nobody imagined that a receiver drafted in the fifth round of the last Draft would be the best of a litter that included names like Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Quentin Johnston and Zay Flowers. Despite this, Puka Nacua of the Rams made history in the Week 18 duel against the San Francisco 49ers.

The BYU graduate came into the game against the Niners with 101 receptions for 1,445 yards, three catches shy of Jaylen Waddle’s mark (104), achieved in 2021, and 28 yards shy of Bill Groman’s record (1,473) set in 1960. In less than three quarters, the rookie achieved the necessary numbers to have the best campaign for a first-year player.

His record-breaking reception for most yards in a rookie season came with 12:42 left in the third quarter. The 21-year-old athlete caught a seven-yard spiral from Carson Wentz.

Immediately, on the next play, Nacua broke the record for most receptions by a rookie by catching a six-yard pass.
