Preliminary Hearing Begins for Accused Attackers in Cori Assault Case

First hearing this morning before the judge for the preliminary hearing of the Court of Latina Giuseppe Cario of the trial against the two men accused of attempted murder for having violently attacked two citizens of Cori with baseball bats and bottles. Luigi Sinibaldi, 44 years old, and Alex Fracassa, 22 years old, assisted by the lawyers Massimo Frisetti and Gaetano Marino, requested and obtained permission to be tried in an abbreviated manner, a request accepted by the preliminary hearing judge. The word was passed to the public prosecutor Simona Gentile who, after reconstructing the facts, asked for a sentence of eight years in prison for Sinibaldi and 4 years and ten months for Fracassa.

The facts date back to April 17 last year when the defendants showed up at the home of two men from Cori and beat them up by repeatedly hitting them with baseball bats and bottles on the head, face and chest. One of the two victims suffered a fracture of the nasal bones, of the jaw, head trauma, multiple wounds to the face, fracture of some ribs which made it necessary to be urgently transported under code red to the emergency room of the Goretti hospital after which he was then transferred in intensive care. The second victim emerged from the attack with a lacerated and bruised wound and a fracture of the nasal septum as well as the jaw and was taken to Velletri hospital.

The investigations then led, about a month after the attack, to the arrest of Sinibaldi and Fracassa on charges of attempted murder. The suspicion is that money and debt issues were behind the beating.

The hearing was postponed to March 18th for the conclusions and sentence.
