Potential Transfer Targets for Chelsea in the Winter of 2024

Chelsea is one of the English Premier League (EPL) clubs which is quite active in the transfer market. In the winter of 2024, the Blues are also expected to add new players. What’s more, they are currently struggling in the EPL.

Chelsea sits in 10th place in the 2023/2024 EPL standings. This achievement is certainly very unsatisfactory. In order to end the season with a better ranking, Chelsea needs to bring in new ammunition. Here are five players that Chelsea could recruit in the winter of 2024.

1. Joao Neves can replace Moises Caicedo

Benfica is one of the clubs that often releases its players to the Premier League. Currently, there are several former Benfica players playing in the EPL, such as Ruben Dias, Enzo Fernandez and Darwin Nunez. One of the next Benfica players who could follow in their footsteps is Joao Neves.

Neves is a key player in Benfica’s midfield. He is usually placed in the defensive midfielder position. Neves can replace Moises Caicedo, who has not performed optimally. However, to get Neves, Chelsea must compete with another Premier League club, Manchester United.

Even though they appear less promising in 2023/2024, Ajax Amsterdam has still succeeded in promoting its young players. One name that has managed to steal attention is Jorrel Hato. Even though he is only 17 years old, Hato has always been the main choice in the Ajax center back position.

Hato could be a long-term investment for Chelsea if he is successfully brought in in January 2024. This Dutch player is also projected to replace Thiago Silva, who is no longer young. To bring in Hato, Chelsea must prepare at least 22 million euros or Rp. 373 billion.

Benjamin Sesko has been linked with several big Premier League clubs in the summer of 2023. However, he chose to join German Bundesliga club, RB Leipzig. Unfortunately, in 2023/2024, Sesko will not get the opportunity to play. He was unable to compete with Leipzig’s main striker, Lois Openda.

Despite having minimal playing minutes, Sesko was still able to show his quality by scoring 7 goals in 22 matches. Chelsea can use this player from Slovenia as an alternative in the front line. Apart from Chelsea, several other European clubs interested in Sesko are AC Milan, Arsenal and Manchester United.

Warren Zaire-Emery is a product of the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) academy. He was successfully promoted to PSG’s main squad in 2022. Now, he is an irreplaceable player in Les Parisiens’ midfield.

With PSG, the 17 year old player has made 50 appearances, scoring 5 goals and 5 assist. Chelsea can recruit Zaire-Emery to add strength in the midfield. However, the Blues have to prepare large funds to bring the player to Stamford Bridge. Currently, Zaire-Emery’s market value has reached 60 million euros or IDR 1 trillion.
