Pierre Mignoni, after Toulon’s defeat in Montpellier: “We were absent from the debates”

Pierre Mignoni (Toulon manager, after the defeat on the Montpellier pitch (27-17)): “Congratulations to the Montpellier residents who did what was necessary. They richly deserve it. We are absent from the debates and there is nothing to say. We didn’t dominate anything. We were absent from the debates in almost all sectors for forty minutes, apart from the scrum which was very balanced.

Rugby is first and foremost a combat sport. And against a team that was gambling for its life, there were no surprises. It’s obvious. At the start of the second half, fortunately we woke up, otherwise I would have been very worried. But we still make small mistakes which allow them to score. We could have come back but we weren’t precise enough, with keys not found and too many errors. It’s absolutely not a high-level match for us.

Mattéo Le Corvec (Toulon third row): We let ourselves fall asleep, we played a little at their level. Obviously, they were hungry. When you are at the bottom of the table, you have a lot of desire and they had more than us. We didn’t respect what we had to do. Maybe we lacked humility. We prepared well but as soon as we didn’t stick to our game plan or made a mistake, I feel like we gave up.

We panicked for nothing and we played too much ball. They put us in trouble and it became complicated. By making crappy passes, we set ourselves on fire and went back into a negative spiral. We should have taken our time more and been colder. »
