PGA Johnson and Noren take the lead, Pavon 39th

The first round of “The American Express” tournament ended on the three California courses. Matthieu Pavon is the best Frenchman at -5 while the American Zach Johnson and the Swede Alex Noren are provisionally leading the tournament at -10.

There are two of them sharing the leadership position. First of all, we have the captain of the American Ryder Cup team, Zach Johnson. With a card of 62 (-10), making no errors for 10 birdies recorded, the American had an ideal day during the first round of “The American Express” tournament, in California: “I was enthusiastic about the idea for this day. I’ve been working a lot lately, considering what happened last year and what I was responsible for, which was great. […] I’m going to continue doing what I’m doing. I worked well with my caddy, trying to hit the middle of the fairways as much as possible and it worked well, so that’s how it is. Stay in the present moment. »

Accompanied by Alex Noren at the head of the leaderboard, the Swede experienced more twists on his day after making an eagle, 12 birdies and a double bogey. Only one shot behind, the South African Christiaan Bezuidenhout and the Chilean Rico Hoey are placed in 3rd position at -9. They are followed by nine players at -8, including world No. 5 and No. 6, Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay.

With a good day at -5, Matthieu Pavon places himself in 39th position. Author of 7 birdies and a double bogey, the Bordeaux player has had a string of good performances, after scoring a top 10 last week in Hawaii. Accompanied by world No. 1, Scottie Scheffler or the Irishman Shane Lowry, the 31-year-old can still reach the top of the table on courses where the scores are low.
