Pedro Rocha will call the elections for the presidency of the RFEF in the coming days

The president of the managing committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Pedro Rochawill call elections for the presidency of the organization in the coming days. Whether there is a new Ministerial Order or not. This is confirmed by sources from the Federation aE l Periódico de España, from the Prensa Ibérica group, who reaffirm Rocha’s commitment to having an electoral process in the first four months of the year.

The same sources avoid setting a deadline for the call, but emphasize that it is not possible to wait much longer, so the call could occur within a period of two weeks. The question now is what type of elections will be held: whether they will be ordinary, so a new president would be elected for four years; or extraordinary, which would lead to a presidency that would expire after the Paris Olympic Games. After the Olympic event, new elections would be held, as established by the Sports Law.

Waiting for the Ministerial Order

Rocha promised months ago to extend his interim term as head of the RFEF solo until the first quarter of this year. The decision, which had the endorsement of the Government and the TAD, was based on the fact that at this point in the year the Ministerial Order that will regulate the electoral processes of all national sports federations had already been approved. In this way, they could celebrate an early electionwhich will lead to a full four-year mandate.

However, the approval of the Ministerial Order is being delayed due to the change at the head of the CSD and the bureaucracy inherent to this type of procedures. As this newspaper reported, the Government is currently waiting to a report from the State Attorney’s Office to publish the order, after reviewing said opinion.

The problem is that the times are beginning to be very tight, given that It is not possible to hold elections after the start of the Euro Cup (June 12) since this process entails a period of no less than 50 days, since first an electoral regulation must be drawn up in the RFEF, then the assembly must be formed and then the election of the president must be held.

Some ‘quick’ elections

Thus, Rocha is willing to call ‘quick’ elections, in which those who elected Luis Rubiales almost four years ago would vote. Whoever was elected would be president of the RFEF for all purposes, with full executive capacity, but His term would expire after the Olympic Gameswhen a new assembly would be formed that would elect a new president.

Rocha, as explained by the Federation, is going to transfer this decision to the new president of the CSD, Jose Manuel Rodriguez Uribes, hoping that it will be possible to call full elections, as planned, for which it is essential to have the new Ministerial Order already published in the BOE. The president of the management company understands that his interim period must end now and he is annoyed by the voices that insist that he wants to remain in his interim position for as long as possible.

Galán’s complaint against Rocha

In fact, it had been considered in recent days that the delay in the approval of the Ministerial Order was close to causing the early elections to not be held, which would have caused Rocha remained as leader of the federation manager until after the Olympic Games.

This decision coincides, coincidentally or not, with a complaint by Miguel Galán against Rocha and the members of his management company that the CSD has raised to the TAD. The president of CENAFE considers that Rocha contravened the statutes of the RFEF itself by not calling elections imminently after the resignation of Luis Rubiales. The TAD should announce shortly whether it opens a file or dismisses the complaint, an option, the latter, that Rocha’s entourage practically takes for granted.
