Ourense Hosts First Round of National League of Badminton Clubs for 2023-2024 Season

Ourense has hosted the first round of the National League of badminton clubs of the 2023-2024 edition, an event that brought together 12 teams from all over the country in their fight for the long-awaited title of champion of the First Gold League, the second national league. most important in the discipline only behind the Liga Top10 Iberdola-División de Honor. The competition was held at the Pazo dos Deportes Paco Paz and there the Ourense representative, Club Athlos, served as host.

Those from As Burgas sought to remain in this category for another year, each year more demanding due to the signings of the different teams. Athlos is a young team led by coaches Marta Iglesias and Olalla Fernández, who define it as “a youth team in which experienced players collaborate with younger players, all of them overflowing with desire and enthusiasm.”

This enthusiasm took them to eighth position in the classification after competing against the Estella Badminton Club, which they beat 7-0. Against Granollers, against whom they lost 3-4, and against Cartagena, with the most painful defeat: 1-6.

The club already warned that it would be a complicated duel because in the first round they faced the Navarrese team of Estella, a classic team in the competition, with leading players such as David Manzano or Mihir Palande, in the second round the confrontation was against the Catalans Granollers, a team that stands out for its home players such as doubles player Marc Gallardo, the Lucas sisters or the young Jofre Cornellá; and the last match was against Puerta Padillas Cartagena, a recently promoted team, from Murcia but very reinforced with signings, both foreign and national of high level, among which Elena Lorenzo, Nerea Iborra and Enrique Navarro stood out.

“We want it to be noticed that we are playing at home,” the people from Ourense asked before the dispute of an event where the fans did not fail, they supported and accompanied them in fulfilling their objective.

Now within the Athlos Badminton Club they are already thinking about the month of February and specifically their last weekend. On the 24th and 25th, the Asturian city of Oviedo will host the next leg of the First Gold League, which will measure Club Bádminton Benalmádena, Universidad de Valladolid and Caser Grupo Helvetia against the Galicians, who want this to be their fifth consecutive year in the category.
