Opava Football Club Sold to Slovakian Investor: City to Retain Ownership of Stadium and Training Facilities

The city will continue to own the stadium and other technical and training facilities used by the club. The representatives of the city have been trying to sell the stake for a long time.

“The unbelievable has become a reality. After many years of effort, we managed to find a partner from Slovakia who will take over Opava football. This is a very important step for Opava. The football club will thus obtain the necessary funds for further development. It is in the interest of the new owner to return to the top competition,” said Mayor Tomáš Navrátil (ANO). He added that the town hall will continue to support sports for children and youth. The club will continue to play under the same name.

Krajíček said that he has been involved in football for several years. “I have a number of acquaintances in football in Opava, and when I got to know the history of the club, its fans and especially realized its possibilities and potential, the decision was made. I’m glad that everything was able to be completed,” said the businessman, who in the past supported, for example, football in Žilina or a third-league club from Bánová.

The buyer will pay the debts to the city

The buyer will pay the debts and loans that the club has to the city in the amount of around 20 million crowns. Part of the agreement is also a notarial escrow contract for the amount of 15 million crowns, which will be gradually released for the club’s operational financing by the end of this year. On the contrary, the city will continue to provide cash payments in the amount of 1.8 million crowns to support the club’s activities. The city will also ensure the operation and maintenance of the stadium and youth sports fields and energy payments, with the exception of heating the lawn and lighting the field, which will cost it around eight million crowns every year.

Opava owned 99.25 percent of the shares in the club. The company AIK was founded in 2013. Its main focus is plasterboard structures, cassette ceilings and construction activities in general. Last April, Krajíček became a member of the club’s board of directors.
