As a child, Nick Dunlap lived next to a golf club and practiced every day. At the age of 20, he became the first amateur to win a PGA Tour tournament in 33 years – and followed in the footsteps of two golf icons.

Nick Dunlap emulates two golf icons, first Tiger Woods and now Phil Mickelson. Dunlap won the US Junior Amateur in 2021 and the US Amateur Championship in 2023. Only Woods had previously achieved this double success. On Sunday, the new super talent from the USA, who only turned twenty years old a month ago, also achieved a coup that Mickelson had last achieved 33 years ago.

Like the left-hander in Tuscon (Arizona) in 1991, Dunlap also won a PGA Tour tournament as an amateur. Dunlap prevailed at The American Express in La Quinta, California. “I’m still shocked, really,” said Dunlap, who shed a few tears of happiness in his parents’ arms on the 18th green.
