Curious TV dialogue! Buschmann fails because of the NFL question
Cult commentator Frank Buschmann failed on an ARD quiz show because of a question about US sports.
The 59-year-old, who has been commentating on NFL games for RTL since this season, was a guest on the show “Who knows something like that?” hosted by Kai Pflaume on Friday and played on a team with comedy star Bernhard Hoëcker against Laura Wontorra and Elton.
At the beginning of the show, the two decided on a sports question, which was presented shortly afterwards by moderator Pflaume.
“Before floodlights became established in the USA…
“A: …did baseball players wear caps with little lights on them in the evenings?”
“B: …was a white football used in NFL night games?”
“C: …did ice hockey referees use night vision goggles?”
“Spontaneously I would say B,” said Buschmann as soon as the question flashed on the screen – but he didn’t seem entirely sure. “I would be with the white football. “I just don’t know if it was ever played in the NFL,” he said.
A curious dialogue then developed between the sports commentator and Hoëcker, in which both wanted to shift responsibility for answering the question to the other.

“You decide now, Bernhard!” said Buschmann at some point. “You’re not serious!?” he countered: “You want to do sport, you’re an expert and now I’m supposed to decide!?”
“But we’re a team!” Buschmann objected – and Hoëcker said: “If you want me to decide, I’ll take A. Then things will work out well for you.”
Buschmann shook his head with a laugh: “But I want us to win!” After the amusing exchange, the two rate candidates finally decided on answer A, as Hoëcker had wanted – and were completely wrong.
The correct answer would have been B – the one Buschmann initially gave. The cheerful controversy between Hoëcker and Buschmann had no impact – both ultimately won the show against Elton and Wontorra.
