Need for Immediate Transfer Signings at FC Bayern Munich After Key Injuries

In addition to the Frenchman, sports director Christoph Freund also took part in the press conference to introduce the new right-back Sacha Boey.

In addition to being happy about the 23-year-old newcomer (“He has a lot of energy, he is a very strong player who can tackle a lot of meters. He will be very good for our team”), the Austrian also had to answer the curious questions of the journalists present about possible further transfers.

They are clearly noticeable for the record champions shortly before the start of the crucial phase of the season. Those in charge around Freund are doing their best not to get hectic.

“We are in discussions about how we can deal with the situation with the many injuries. But it doesn’t have to be with a transfer,” said the 46-year-old in the press conference. According to some experts, FC Bayern is currently playing with fire.

Tuchel already criticized the depth of the squad in the summer

“The squad is a bit thin. There are few of us, but we will do our best and push the squad. It’s a good squad, but a bit brave in some positions.” With these words, coach Tuchel caused an uproar at the record champions in September.

“Sky” expert Dietmar Hamann subsequently criticized the trainer severely for his words: “This constant whining, I really can’t listen to it anymore because of course it’s not good for the club and the team either.”

Three months later and shortly before the end of the winter transfer window, Hamann should also acknowledge that Tuchel’s “whining” was certainly justified. With the signings of Eric Dier and Boey, the club now had to react to the transfer market at short notice.

The problems in the central and right-back positions had already become apparent before the start of the season. After Benjamin Pavard’s departure to Inter Milan, Noussair Mazraoui remained as the only trained right-back in the squad. When the Moroccan was out with a torn muscle before Christmas, new signing Konrad Laimer had to move to the outside position.

Boey has to deliver directly

The former Leipzig player is a trained midfielder – and is now out for the medium term. During the catch-up game against Union Berlin, the Austrian tore a muscle bundle in his left calf. He is expected to be out for Bayern for two months. To make matters worse, the Munich team even sent another full-back, Josip Stanisic, on loan to Leverkusen at the start of the season.

Now the young Boey, signed from Galatasaray Istanbul for 30 million euros, will probably have to prove himself as quickly as possible. When asked whether he would be able to play against Borussia Mönchengladbach next Saturday, he replied: “I’m ready. I’ll work hard every day and give everything to make sure things go well.”

Things are similarly tight in central defense. Boey’s compatriot Dayot Upamécano will also be missing there for weeks with a torn muscle fiber. Since Minjae Kim is still at the Asian Cup, there are only two fit players left in the center of defense: Matthijs de Ligt and new signing Dier. By the way, De Ligt is threatened with a fifth yellow card in the next game and thus a game ban.

Another loss would be difficult for Tuchel and his team to cope with. Also because Leon Goretzka, who had to help out in the central defender position in the DFB Cup game against Münster, is now needed again in midfield.

Pavlovic as Kimmich replacement

His partner Joshua Kimmich is out there for the time being with a shoulder injury. Since Laimer is also unavailable, homegrown player Aleksandar Pavlovic had to help out in the last Bundesliga game against FC Augsburg.

The 19-year-old, who had already shone in his appearances in the Bayern jersey before the winter break, even impressed with his first goal for Munich in the 3-2 win. However, it is questionable whether Tuchel would throw the youngster into the deep end in the upcoming Champions League tasks against Lazio.

According to sporting director Freund, it’s not all that dramatic, after all, some injured players will be coming back “in the next few weeks”. Mazraoui and Kim should also have returned from their national teams by then.

Reschke criticizes the depth of the squad

Michael Reschke, former technical director at FC Bayern, also sees it that way. In the Bundesliga web show from “ran” he also commented on the squad situation at the current Bundesliga runners-up.

“To be able to sign the quality of Kingsley Coman now is of course a dream come true.”

The 66-year-old added clearly: “One or two squad players may be missing.”

Zaragoza should come earlier, Eberl has to sort it out

After all, Freund confirmed on the sidelines of Boey’s presentation that the club was trying to secure an early transfer for offensive man Bryan Zaragoza. The 22-year-old was introduced as a summer signing in December.

However, the Spaniard is currently still under contract with Granada FC. The club is currently second to last in La Liga and is fighting against relegation. It is questionable whether Granada will let their top man leave early. Freund also knows this: “There are always three parties involved.”

Early Zaragoza transfer? Friend doesn’t rule anything out

The fact is: FC Bayern has had a turbulent transfer winter. Despite intensive efforts, Tuchel’s dream players Kieran Trippier from Newcastle United (too expensive) and Nordi Mukiéle from Paris Saint-Germain could not be signed.

In a few months, Max Eberl will take over the fortunes and sporting management at Säbener Straße. It is possible that Freund is currently holding back on major transfers for this reason. In any case, the former Leipzig and Gladbach official will have a lot of work to do.
