FC Copenhagen has reported to NEC for Magnus Mattsson, De Gelderlander reported on Saturday morning. According to journalist Jeroen Bijma, the Nijmegen club has even received a concrete offer. The number seven of the Eredivisie is therefore in danger of losing an absolute highlight in the final days of the winter transfer period.

The size of the offer that NEC has received is currently unknown. It is also questionable whether the people of Nijmegen are prepared to cooperate in Mattsson’s departure. The 24-year-old Dane himself would like to go to Copenhagen and is even close to a personal agreement.

The attacking midfielder previously indicated that he did not want to leave until after this season. Mattsson has an expiring contract with NEC, but the club has an option to automatically extend that contract for another year. His current market value is 3 million euros according to Transfermarkt.

At Copenhagen, Mattsson can soon play in the eighth finals of the Champions League. The Danish top club awaits a tough challenge against defending champion Manchester City next month. In the group stage of the billion-dollar ball, Copenhagen came somewhat surprisingly second in a group with Bayern Munich, Galatasaray and Manchester United.

Mattsson is having a great season at NEC. In 21 official matches, the Dane has scored 12 goals and 5 assists so far. His departure would be a big setback for NEC, which wants to qualify for the play-offs for European football this season.

Mattsson came over for several hundred thousand euros from Silkeborg IF in the summer of 2021, the club where he received his youth training and broke through as a professional footballer. On behalf of that club he mainly played in the second level of Denmark.

At Copenhagen, Mattsson could prove himself in the Superligaen, the highest level in his native country. The fifteen-time national champion is currently third in the competition. Copenhagen already reported to Sparta for goalkeeper Nick Olij earlier this month, but the Haarlem native firmly dismissed the interest.

If Mattsson leaves, NEC already has his successors in place. 35-year-old Tjaronn Chery was presented this week in Nijmegen. The veteran is hired by NEC from Maccabi Haifa, where he was captain and star player. Chery wanted to return to the Netherlands due to private circumstances.
