NBA Player Ryan Rollins Cut from Washington Wizards After Shoplifting Charges

Arrived in Washington in the suitcases of Jordan Poole, Ryan Rollins wasn’t really in Wes Unseld Jr’s rotation, but his contract for this season was fully guaranteed, to the tune of $1.7 million, and it also guaranteed him $600,000 for next year.

So, seeing the Wizards cut him, purely and simply, seemed really surprising…

Thanks to The Athletic, we now understand this decision better since the former Warrior must appear before a judge for multiple shoplifting charges. The 21-year-old guard was caught seven times, from September 9 to November 9, for stealing food, shower gel and even candles from a Target store.

He was charged seven times for petty theft; the items allegedly stolen in each incident were worth less than $1,000. He must therefore be heard by the courts in February.

“We only recently learned of the charges against Ryan”assures Michael Winger, president of Monumental Basketball, which now manages the club. “We cannot comment on this matter, nor on our choices regarding our staffing decisions…We take our role very seriously as citizens of the DMV (of the District of Washington), as representatives of our fans and a team that our community can be proud of. It’s about expectations, not aspirations. We look forward to moving forward with our team as it is assembled and striving for excellence on and off the field. »
