National Selective Archery Recurve Modality Kicks Off at CNAR for Paris 2024 Olympic Games

Mexico.- The National Center for the Development of Sports Talents and High Performance (CNAR) is the setting for the National Selective Archery Recurve modalitywhich brings together 93 athletes from all over the country, who seek to occupy one of the 10 places that will be defined in this process and who will move on to the next selective stage, heading to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

“This Thursday we are already in the qualification rounds, this is a three-day competition process and from here five men and five women will be selected to complete the top 8, along with the archers who went to the Pan American Games, from there compete for the title to the Olympic Games”, projection.

The national teams in Santiago 2023: Javier Rojas, Matías Grande and Caleb Urbina, in the men’s branch and Ángela RuizAlejandra Valencia and Aída Román in the women’s team, passed through this phase and at the end of this control they will join the 10 preselected, to form a top 8 per branch, with which the selection process will be carried out to define the starting team for Paris 2024.

“Here we have a participation of approximately 100 athletes, 28 women and 65 men, they come from all the states of the Mexican Republic and we have outstanding archers such as Emilio Treviño from Nuevo León, Luis ‘El Abuelo’ Álvarez from Baja California, Ángel Alvarado from Baja California and on the women’s side there are Mariana Avitia from Nuevo León and Ana Paula Vázquez from Coahuila, who continue to regain their possibilities,” highlighted the operational director who thanked CONADE for its support to carry out these competitions..

Juan René Serrano explained that, after a double classification of 72 arrows for a total of 144; the archers will pass this Friday to an individual round, where first and second place will be selected; in addition to choosing the six best brands in this classification.

“Those eight athletes per branch will compete in a round robin on Saturday, where those who obtain the greatest amount of bonus points in total from the event will move on to the third selective phase where those selected for the Pan American Games will already be included,” added.

The third phase is scheduled for February 13 to 16, at the CNAR Archery Pavilion.

“We are looking to form selection A and selection B to have an improvement in terms of performance, it is a new program that we are enabling that had not been done, which was to be able to have a consolidated selection of three goalkeepers instead of four and a selection B, also of three members, so that there is greater competition and expectation for all participants. Currently at the international level the scores are very high and we have to ensure that our kids have them too,” the specialist pointed out.

The National Selective will conclude next Sunday, January 21with the departure of the athletes.
