As part of the process towards the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the national archery selection is being held this weekend at the Cnar in Mexico City and the representative of Guanajuato, Matías Grande, will compete in February to strengthen his place.
The selective is in the recurve modality and nearly one hundred athletes from various parts of the country participate; They are looking for one of the top ten places to stay alive in this process.
The operational director of archery in Mexico, Juan René Serrano, reported that there will be three days of competitions and after concluding the actions, five men and five women will be selected to complete the top 8 along with the archers who went to the Pan American Games. Santiago 2023 and from there the country’s representatives in Paris 2024 will emerge.
Remember that the representative of our entity: Matías Grande Kalionchiz is among those selected who attended the Pan-American event, as are Javier Rojas and Caleb Urbina, and in the women’s branch they are: Ángela Ruiz, Alejandra Valencia and Aída Román.
All of them went to this phase and at the end of this control the ten preselected will join together to form a top 8 per branch, with which a selective process will be carried out to define the selected ones who will attend the Olympic competition.
Among the nearly one hundred national archers seeking a place in the preselection are people like: Emilio Treviño from New Leon, Baja Californians Luis ‘Abuelo’ Álvarez and Ángel Alvarado, Mariana Avitia from New Leon and Ana Paula Vázquez from Coahuila.
Serrano explained that after a double classification of 72 arrows to total 144, the archers would go to an individual round where the first and second place will be selected, in addition to choosing the six best brands of this classification.
The third phase is scheduled from February 13 to 16, at the Cnar Archery Pavilion and it is there where Matías Grande will seek to consolidate his place in the national team.
