AS Rome has a new coach as of today. The currently ninth Serie A team announced on Tuesday that it has ended its cooperation with Jose Mourinho, including his assistants. The 60-year-old Portuguese coach has been with the Giallorossi since 2021, his duties are being taken over by Daniele De Rossi.
The management of the unit from the main Italian metropolis issued a press release in the morning, in which they said goodbye to their current captain after two and a half years. “We thank José on behalf of all of us for the passion and commitment he has shown since joining the Giallorossi,” said Wolves president Dan Friedkin and son Ryan, his right-hand man.
Mourinho was called up to AS Roma in the summer of 2021, managing the team in 138 games in all competitions, winning 68 and drawing 31. In May 2022, he triumphed in the Conference League with the team, at the end of last season the Giallorossi fell only in the final of the Europa League. “We will have great memories of his tenure. But we believe that an immediate change is now necessary in the best interests of the entire club,” the statement continued. “We wish José and his associates all the best for the future.”

Roma AS had a replacement ready and club legend Daniele De Rossi will finish the season on his bench. The former Italy international midfielder spent the vast majority of his career at the club from the capital, making 616 appearances and scoring 63 goals. He won the Coppa Italia twice with him.
De Rossi does not have much coaching experience yet. He was involved with the Italian national team for a year and a half, leading only SPAL on the club scene, at whose helm he lasted only four months at the turn of 2022 and 2023.
“I would like to thank the owners’ family for the trust they have shown. From my point of view, we have to bet on dedication and daily hard work. I will give everything to deal with the challenges that await me until the end of the season,” promised the “owner” of 117 starts for the Italian national team.
