Above all, the Basketball World Cup with more than 10 million viewers – and especially the semi-final between Germany and the USA with 2.6 million viewers, the top figure of the year – attracted fans to the TV screens.

But the third division football conference and the German ice hockey league DEL also recorded an increase of around 20 percent each.

“For MagentaSport, the year 2023 was outstanding in terms of sport, content and audience response,” explained Arnim Butzen, Telekom TV boss. “The fans were able to experience our country’s successful national teams and their sensational performances up close at MagentaSport. For example, the World Cup silver medal for the national ice hockey team and, as a highlight, the world championship title for basketball players. Everything was live and in the best quality. No provider was closer on these teams. We convinced the fans with competent, emotional and authentic sports reporting.”

In 2024, MagentaSport will continue to broadcast all games from the 3rd league, the first and second women’s Bundesliga and top games from the Coupe de France and the Regionalliga West.

All DEL games, including the playoffs, will also be shown live. The national ice hockey teams have the World Cup preparation games and the Germany Cup coming up, as well as the U20 World Cup and the Women’s World Cup in April.

In basketball, the men’s qualifying games for the Eurobaskets 2025 will take place in February and November, which can then be seen live on MagentaSport.
