Monty Williams (Detroit Pistons): “I was almost in tears”

Monty Williams (Detroit Pistons coach, after the victory against the Toronto Raptors 129-127): “I’ve been in a ton of locker rooms throughout my life, and this is a first for me, to have this kind of emotions. It wasn’t relief, it was just “Thank God.” And the guys were screaming, I was almost in tears. I’m so happy for our guys and everyone in the locker room. Sometimes all it takes is a win like that to get things going. (We have to think about) all the circumstances in which our young people develop. It was really cool to be in the mix and win.

I have a lot of respect for our team and the way they carry themselves every day. The players came every day with a good spirit, they wanted answers and they came with the desire to learn and try to improve. We rarely came into the gym with a bad frame of mind. We were always happy because we knew that if we applied ourselves, we could not only win a match, but also have many victories. So I respected our players and I was very happy that we finally won, because it is very difficult to win in this league. So yeah, it was pretty cool. »
