13th minute: Vechta’s wonder talent Johann Grünloh (18) has problems with the rebound and cannot control the ball in three attempts in a row. As he hops towards the jumping leather, he hits Heidelberg’s Tim Coleman in the eye with his forehead. This does not look good!

The American remains on the ground, holding his right eye. Teammates help him up. Coleman pulls his jersey over his head and sneaks off the field. Good news: He can continue playing later!

In any case, the young Vechta star, who experts believe can make it to the NBA, is not off to a good start in the game. After just two minutes and ten seconds he had two fouls and had to go to the bench.

Vechta dominated the initial phase and made it 17:8 (6th). At 27:17 the guests took a double-digit lead for the first time (9th).

Vechta wins in Heidelberg

In the middle of the second quarter, Vechta got 18 rebounds, Heidelberg only 6. However: The hosts punished the North Germans for throwing away too many balls in front. Consequence: At halftime the score is only 41:43.

Former NBA player Paul Zipser, who injured his ankle during training, is missing from Heidelberg.

Vechta’s assistant coach Marius Graf on the break at Dyn: “We got off to a very good start: Then Heidelberg increased the tempo and physicality – and we weren’t ready for it. We just have to take better care of the ball. Our strength today is the rebound, we have to build on that.”

Unusual: Because Vechta started the third quarter at full throttle (49:62), Heidelberg coach Joonas Iisalo took two timeouts within a few minutes – and shouted at his players!

Doesn’t help! Vechta doesn’t let anything go wrong, misses Heidelberg’s seventh bankruptcy in a row and increases their relegation worries!

Heidelberg captain Akeem Vargas after the game at Dyn: “Unacceptable! The beginning of the third quarter is absolutely unacceptable. Vechta did many things harder and better than us. We lost the ball a lot and looked soft a lot of the time. I would like to apologize to our fans, that wasn’t enough for a full hall. Nobody will give us anything. We have to get out of there!”
