This is a project that the municipality has had in the works for many months: building a multi-activity center at the May-sur-Orne football stadium, south of Caen (Calvados).

Start of work before summer?

A single-storey building with a surface area of between 250 and 400 m2 must indeed see the light of day next to the training ground. Inside: changing rooms for the football club, a club house, as well as a multi-activity room.

The party room is large and we therefore heat a large volume for 20 or 25 people. This new room will accommodate the different associations and will allow us to save money.

Jean-Luc Mottais, mayor of May-sur-Orne.

A project between €800,000 and €1 million

In practice, this future room should be used for judo, gymnastics, the alumni club and even as a motor skills room for the municipality’s nursery and elementary schools. “The project is being finalized,” said Councilor Mayen at the end of the year.

The overall cost is estimated between €800,000 and €1 million. The start of work is hoped for “for the first half of 2024”.

The future of the hotel-restaurant L’Ammonite set for 2024

Another issue which should move forward in 2024: the future of the hotel-restaurant L’Ammonite, closed for 18 months. The municipality has positioned itself to buy it so that it is not demolished. “It’s a magnificent building in Caen stone, dating from the post-war period,” says Jean-Luc Mottais. “This hotel-restaurant has quite a history in the town.”

The municipality will therefore give it a second life.

The project is not completely defined, but we want it to become a place of activity, a nice place where people can meet like a bar or a restaurant.

Elected officials wish to position themselves during the first half of 2024 in order to buy it this year from the Normandy Public Land Establishment (EPFN), which bought it for the town hall at the end of October 2023. And to begin the work at the end of 2024, before the requalification of the town center planned for 2025.
