During his visit to the “Bayern Friends Tegernseer Tal” fan club, Manuel Neuer (37) was more open and honest than he had been for a long time. Munich’s number one even spoke about a topic that he had cleverly avoided over the past few months.

In a 32-minute documentary by the club about Neuer’s celebrated return, Bayern’s team doctor Prof. Dr. Peter Ueblacker (46): “It was a very serious injury – probably the most serious injury we have seen at FC Bayern in recent years or decades.” Neuer also says emotionally today: “Many people no longer believed that I could come back again.”
It’s logical that the accident and its consequences continue to concern many Neuer fans to this day. That’s why a visitor asked the five-time world goalkeeper at his fan club appointment: “Have you been skiing again since the injury?” And were there any contractual changes afterwards?” So Neuer now has a ban on skiing in his Bayern contract?

Neuer’s answer was surprisingly open and honest: “Contractually there have been no changes. I haven’t been skiing yet. I was once on the cross-country ski trail and did a little round of skating (cross-country skiing style, editor’s note) at the Voitlhof (the start of the cross-country ski trail at the rustic restaurant near the Upper Bavarian town of Rottach, editor’s note). That worked quite well.”
Since his accident, Neuer has become even more risk-aware and pays close attention to what he puts into his body. Skiing is apparently not one of them so far. But he is confident enough to do a round of cross-country skiing again, where there is little risk of injury.
During his months of rehab, the ski fan (has been skiing since he was six) has learned to take even better care of his body.
This is also evident in his games in the Bundesliga or the Champions League.
