Mali wins opening game, Tunisia loses

With Salzburg striker Sekou Koita, Mali won its opening game at the African Cup of Football in Ivory Coast. Mali defeated South Africa 2-0 (0-0) on Tuesday. In the second game of Group E, Namibia surprised with a 1-0 (0-0) win over Tunisia and celebrated their first victory in their fourth participation in the finals.

After South Africa missed a penalty through Percy Tau before the break (19′), a double strike from Hamari Traore (60′) and Lassine Sinayoko (66′) brought the decision. Koita was used until the 86th minute and then made way for his Salzburg club colleague Dorgeles Nene. Striker defender Amadou Dante was a substitute for Mali.

Burkina Faso beat Mauritania 1-0 thanks to a Bertrand Traore penalty in the 95th minute. In the duel between the two favorites in Group D, Burkina Faso will face Algeria on Saturday, who only played 1-1 against Angola the day before.
