Revenge is a dish best served cold. Romelu Lukaku remembered this when called to vote for the prize awarded by FIFA to the best coach of the calendar year. When he showed up at San Siro wearing the Roma shirt, to challenge Inter (on 29 October, losing 1-0), he was inundated with whistles and insults. Away from the pitch, the Belgian was able to settle accounts at least with his former coach, Simone Inzaghi. As captain of Belgium, the striker was voted for the Best Fifa Awards 2023.

And what did he do? He forgot about his former coach when he voted for the best coach category. The Giallorossi center forward lined up Pep Guardiola (treble with Manchester City, beating Inter in Istanbul on 10 June), Xavi (who Inzaghi eliminated in the group stage of the last Champions League) and Luciano Spalletti, who gave Napoli wins the scudetto after 33 years.

No preference for the Nerazzurri coach, with whom relations in the 2022-23 season were complicated: Simone often sent him to the bench, as in the last act of the top continental competition. Which was the reason for the big rift between Lukaku and the Viale della Liberazione club.
