Ligue 2: regulated payroll for the Girondins de Bordeaux

The Girondins de Bordeaux are not out of the woods. Unable to find a new minority shareholder to balance its finances, the Bordeaux club will see its payroll regulated. The National Directorate of Management Control (DNCG), after re-examining the Girondins file, took the decision this Wednesday to “regulate the payroll and transfer compensation”.

“FC Girondins de Bordeaux has taken note of the DNCG’s decision. (…) The club having been engaged for three years in a responsible management approach, this decision to control the payroll and transfer allowances will have no impact on the operational management of the club”, reacted the club on (ex-Twitter).

The financial policeman of French football was clearly not convinced after hearing the Bordeaux leaders, including President Gérard Lopez. The body had put its decision on hold since mid-December, after requesting additional documents from the Ligue 2 resident.

The DNCG could have been more severe

The latter were, according to Sud Ouest, to discuss the potential arrival of a new minority shareholder, capable of at least covering the needs of the current financial year, which was what the Girondins had promised between the lines.

This Tuesday, the former Ligue 1 club presented its latest financial “plan” for the end of the 2023-2024 season, and its projections for 2024-2025, based in particular on a positive transfer balance. Not enough to satisfy the DNCG, which could still have been more severe by banning the recruitment club or by deciding on relegation as a precautionary measure.

This is also the sanction to which the Berrichonne de Châteauroux is subject. The Castelroussins, a National club, have, on the other hand, already found a fallback solution with the arrival of a new majority shareholder, announced this Wednesday.
