Kruzberg takes fourth place in the European Short Track Championship in 1500 meters / Diena

In the semi-finals, Kruseberg took second place in his skate with a time of two minutes and 22.997 seconds, just behind Friso Emmons of the Netherlands, both of whom advanced to the A final.

In the final, the Latvian short track athlete took fourth place with a time of two minutes and 21.684 seconds.

The victory was won by the Italian Pietro Sigel, who completed the distance in two minutes and 21.555 seconds. He beat Emmons by 28 thousandths of a second and Ichak de Laat, another Dutch short track athlete, by 68 thousandths.

It has already been reported that on Friday Kruzberg was second in the quarter-finals.

As LETA reported on Friday, the other Latvian athlete Reinis Bērziņš experienced a fall in the 1000 meter distance and did not continue the competition.

On Saturday, with the participation of Kruzberg, the quarter-finals in 500 meters were also held.

Kruzberg took third place in his skate with a time of 41.674 seconds, but qualified for the semifinals as the owner of the best result of athletes who took third place in four skates. In his skating, he lost to Teun Bohr of the Netherlands (41.279) and Stein Desmet of Belgium.

In the semi-finals, the Latvian athlete was in the third position in the first laps, but then slipped to the fourth place. He finished fourth in his semi-final in 41.453 seconds, which prevented him from continuing the fight for prizes.

In the continuation, Kruzberg fought for the sixth place in the B final. He covered the distance in 41.499 seconds, convincingly ahead of the nearest follower, and finished first, securing sixth place overall.

It has already been reported that on Friday, Kruzberg finished second in his skating in the 500-meter preliminaries.

Bērziņš did not start, ranking 20th among 42 athletes in the championship ranking. In the distance of 1500 meters, he took 21st place in the competition of 43 short track athletes.

Semi-finals and finals in 500 meters will be held on Saturday, and quarter-finals in 1000 meters with Kruzberg’s presence – on Sunday.

This season, Latvians showed their best results at the first stage of the World Cup in Montreal. Bērziņš won the third place in 1500 meters, while Kruzbergs was fourth in the second distance of 1000 meters.

The previous season for Krūzberg and Bērziņas was the best in their careers, as well as the most successful ever in the history of Latvian short track in the World Cup competitions. At the European Championship, Bērziņš won bronze in 500 meters.
