“The entire world of football and beyond is mourning the loss of our friend Franz. FC Bayern should host a memorial service in the stadium to thank and remember him, which would never have existed without him,” the 68-year-old told the Bild newspaper.

Beckenbauer died on Sunday at the age of 78. According to information from Bild, former Bayern CEO Rummenigge has already spoken to Uli Hoeneß, honorary president of the club, about the memorial service. A meeting on the matter will take place on Tuesday and the feasibility will be examined.

In August 2022 there was a funeral service for the late club idol Uwe Seeler in the Hamburger SV’s Volksparkstadion. Around 5,000 fans came back then, and Munich would probably be full if the idea could be implemented.
