Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp caused laughter by joking about the current absence of his players Mohamed Salah and Wataru Endo.

Salah is taking part in the Africa Cup of Nations (January 13th to February 11th) with Egypt, while Endo is taking part in the Asian Cup (January 12th to February 10th) with Japan.

“I said: ‘If I wished you good luck, that would be a lie,'” Klopp joked at a press conference. “Of course I didn’t, but yeah, from a personal point of view I would be over the moon if they got eliminated in the group stage, but that’s probably not possible.”

If Egypt and Japan reach the respective finals of the continental tournaments, Klopp would have to be without Salah and Endo until mid-February.

Of course, this hurts Liverpool a lot, especially in the case of Salah. After all, the 31-year-old is perhaps the Reds’ most important player and is once again in top form with 18 goals and nine assists in 27 appearances this season.
