Touchdown premiere for St. Brown – Detroit Lions dream of the Superbowl

After his touchdown debut in the playoffs, Amon-Ra St. Brown dreams of the first Super Bowl in team history with the Detroit Lions. The German-American wide receiver is in the NFC conference final after the win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Kansas City and Detroit with the German Amon-Ra St. Brown move into the semifinals of the NFL playoffs. Anyone who wanted to watch the dramatic Lions football game on RTL+ in this country had massive problems. The jungle camp got in the way.

Amon-Ra St. Brown left the field with his hands raised and the Detroit Lions fans cheered even louder than they already did. With a touchdown and once again being his team’s best receiver, the German-American played a major role in his team’s success on Sunday. With the 31:23 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Lions are only missing one win to reach the Super Bowl. It would be a first for Detroit.

German fans who wanted to watch the game on the Internet via RTL Plus had big problems with it. In the first half, the streaming service’s server collapsed due to overload. Commentator Frank Buschmann apologized for this during his report (the broadcast ran smoothly on TV).

The reason for the technical problems was the program that RTL had shown on television before the NFL broadcast between 8:15 p.m. and 8:55 p.m.: the jungle camp, shortened and brought forward because of the football games. There, Cora Schumacher, ex-wife of former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher, declared her voluntary exit towards the end of the program. Parallel to the NFL, this “drama” should be processed in a talk format on RTL+. The rush of football and this program was too much. A spokeswoman for the broadcasting group said that due to “extremely high simultaneous usage,” several systems were overloaded despite all the preparations.

For St. Brown and Detroit, the last hurdle to the Super Bowl is the San Francisco 49ers. “This is a great team and it will be a great duel,” said quarterback Jared Goff after the 600th win in the history of the Detroit Lions, play-offs and main round combined. The Los Angeles Rams no longer needed him three years ago, but now the fans in Detroit were chanting his name before the game started. “These are simply the best, look around. They’ll be here for a while, that was our last game at home this season,” he said in the TV interview immediately after the team’s greatest success in more than 30 years.

If the Lions win against the 49ers in the National Football Conference finals, they will face either the Baltimore Ravens or the defending champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, in Las Vegas on February 11th. They beat the Buffalo Bills 27:24 in a game similar to the one in Detroit and are in the final of the American Football Conference for the sixth time in the six years in which quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been a regular player. Travis Kelce scored two touchdowns, causing his girlfriend Taylor Swift to cheer in the stands.

The Chiefs now have plenty of experience with playoffs at this point in the season, while the Lions have virtually none. The last time – and the only time so far – the team was in a conference final in 1992, which they lost to the Washington Redskins. They brought the four championships in their history to Detroit in the period before the Super Bowl era, the last one coming in 1957.

Goff, however, has already been to a Super Bowl with the Rams and is now the undisputed leader in Detroit. An unusual number of his throws towards St. Brown initially failed to reach their target. With eight passes caught, 77 yards and a touchdown, the 24-year-old son of a Leverkusen mother and a former US bodybuilder was once again a crucial factor for his team. A bad pass from Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield with 93 seconds left sealed the Lions’ victory.
