Ivory Coast parts ways with Jean-Louis Gasset: Emerse Faé to take over as interim manager

While Ivory Coast is not yet officially eliminated, the Elephants have decided to part ways with Jean-Louis Gasset. Emerse Faé should act as interim manager.

Clearly, this African Cup of Nations is rich in events, especially for Ivory Coast. Even if the host country is shaken by the incredible defeat against Equatorial Guinea (0-4), it is not yet eliminated from the competition. But despite this, Jean-Louis Gasset should be ousted.

According to journalist Malick Traoré, Ivorian leaders have made the decision to part ways with the French technician. It is Emerse Faé, the former player of FC Nantes and OGC Nice, who should take over the interim role. After the debacle against Equatorial Guinea, Jean-Louis Gasset did not shirk his responsibilities.

Ivory Coast can still qualify

“Obligatoryly, I feel guilty and responsible. When you are the coach of a club or a team, you are responsible for the results. Today the result was catastrophic, so of course I am primarily responsible for it”he confided at a press conference, according to RFI.

Côte d’Ivoire, however, has a real chance of becoming one of the best thirds. This would be the case if Morocco beats Zambia, or depending on the results of group F (Mali wins against Namibia and Tunisia does not win against South Africa). In the event of qualification, the Ivorians would face Senegal.
